A bayside man had a rude awakening in the early hours of Tuesday after an out of control car smashed into his house.
In footage obtained by The Courier-Mail, the car is seen screeching down Primrose Drive, Thornlands, at around 1.03am, mounting a footpath, clipping a light pole, and then crashing into a home on the opposite side of the street.
The car then sits idle for about 20 seconds before the door opens and a woman emerges, before running from the scene.
A neighbour, Paul Thwaite, said he ran outside when he heard the smash.
“I was a bit confused because when we I got across the road the car was empty,” he said.
“But then a man appeared and he said that it was his car and his partner had been the one who was driving, and when she crashed into the house she’s run back to their house, which is only about 40m away.”
“I was initially concerned for Garry (the home’s owner) because I couldn’t see him coming to check out the damage to his home but he had actually slept through it!”
It was Mr Thwaite who woke the home owner, telling him of the situation.
Mr Thwaite said that in the immediate aftermath of the smash, the man claiming to be the car’s owner attempted to reverse the car out of the ruined house.
“We were all saying that he shouldn’t move the car and telling him not to because we didn’t know if the house was unstable or not... eventually we convinced him and he left it there.”
The woman allegedly driving the car, aged in her 30s, was ultimately taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition. A blood alcohol reading was obtained by police.
No charges have been laid.
