A brave Queensland Rail train driver has wrangled a 2.3m carpet snake off the tracks of one of Brisbane’s busiest train stations.
The large snake was spotted on the tracks at Roma Street Station about 4pm on Monday, forcing trains to cease travel on platform 10.
Queensland Rail acting head of regional Scott Cornish said external snake catchers were contacted but they advised they wouldn’t be able get there for two hours, meaning train services would be disrupted during peak hour in the city’s CBD.
“The Queensland Rail driver of a Bundaberg-bound train, which was about to depart, removed the snake, relocating it to the end of the platform,” Mr Cornish said.
“From time-to-time our drivers are required to remove wildlife from the tracks to enable trains to run and for customer safety.”
Mr Cornish thanked the driver, praising his brave efforts in removing the snake from the tracks which was captured on CCTV.
The 2.3m carpet python was relocated to bush land.
