Yangan pub gets a new team

THERE’s a new friendly crew behind the bar at the Yangan pub.

THERE’s a new friendly crew behind the bar at the Yangan pub.

After a few years of travelling around following work and seeing the northern part of the country, Bob and Kylie Friend have decided to stop in this part of the world for a bit.

Mrs Friend said they’d been looking around at potential businesses for a while.

“We’d been looking at caravan parks around the place, when the Yangan Hotel Motel popped up on Gumtree,” she said.

“Bob’s brother lives in Warwick so we’ve been down here before, but never to Yangan, so we came out and had a look.

“A pub wasn’t the first preference but we were done travelling.

“It didn’t take long to decide, and we bought the lease.”

Joining the couple in the venture are Kylie’s sister Kristie and her son Sam and daughter Summa.

“Kristie and I grew up in pubs, mum and dad were always in the pub business,” she said.

“We know and I understand the life.

“So I’ve had quite a bit of experience behind the bar.

“And Bob’s got a far bit of experience on the other side of the bar.”

Mrs Friend said she’s also used to life in small country towns.

“And I thought Yangan looked really lovely,” she said.

“The locals have all been extremely friendly and supportive.”

Mr Friend said he was in charge of the kitchen.

“To be honest, it’s not something I’ve done a lot of,” he said. “But we’ve changed the menu to make it a bit simpler, just nice country pub food.

“Our first night we had 30 people for dinner, and I’ve never cooked for more than five.”

The team is already throwing themselves into the community.

“I heard about Jumpers and Jazz and rang them to see if we could get involved,” Mrs Friend said.

“So we have a gig, the Zac Scerri Trio, on Sunday, July 31 from 1pm.

“We’ll be putting on a courtesy bus to and from Warwick for that one, make sure you book ahead. We’re also doing Sunday morning breakfasts, so take a nice drive out here and see us.”

The new crowd has also set up a Facebook page – you can find them under Yangan Hotel Motel.
