Winter rain is on its way for Warwick, but the cold mornings aren’t over yet

A weather system tracking across Australia will bring some weekend falls, but it will also bring some freezing morning starts.

Winter rain will be very welcome.

Warwick and the Southern Downs is tipped to receive a day or two of showers this week with cold front making its way into the region by tomorrow night.

Rosa Hoff, a meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, said there was an increasing chance of rain later on in the week for the Southern Downs and Granite Belt area.

“We are expecting between 6 to 15 millimetres of rainfall on Friday which will definitely be welcome rain at this time of year,” Ms Hoff said.

Ms Hoff said this amount of rainfall in winter was considered a significant amount.

The showers were thanks to a cold front, currently sitting over Western Australia.

Ms Hoff said the system was heading easterly and would cross the Northern Territory before making its way to the sunshine state.

“It’s slowly rolling and making its way along and track over Queensland tomorrow night and will track around the Maranoa and Warrego areas on Thursday and arrive in the Darling Downs region on Friday,” Ms Hoff said.

Ms Hoff said there were chances for some residual rainfall on Saturday morning, but those showers would clear off early in the morning.

“It’s a very transient weather system and we’re in for a much dryer weekend,” she said.

Once the rain clouds blew on, Ms Hoff said Warwick residents could expect frosty temperatures to return.

“We will be seeing temperatures dropping down from around Saturday onwards,” she said.

The cool air would also see the return of morning frosts on Sunday and Monday morning.

Monday, June 26 was expected to be particularly cold, Ms Hoff said with the overnight minimum expected to sit at 0 degrees.
