"It was my first day on the job (yesterday)," Dr Purcell said.
"They have been going pretty easy on me.
"It's been pretty good.
"It is definitely cough and cold season though."
Dr Purcell has been a doctor for four years and has worked at several hospitals.
"I have worked in Brisbane and Roma and have spent the last two years in Bundaberg doing surgeries," he said.
"Warwick is considered to be a great location to learn and practice rural medicine.
"I am interested in rural medicine and surgery as well.
"The hospital here has a working operating theatre and I will be performing procedures there.
"I know many people who have been through the Warwick Hospital as doctors or patients and I haven't heard a bad word about it."
Dr Purcell said he had an interest in endoscopies.
"It is a surgery people with suspected stomach and colon cancers have to have," he said.
"There is normally long waiting lists for these types of surgeries and the more doctors we have able to perform them, the quicker we can get through the list and diagnose people."
Dr Purcell said he also performed skin incisions, appendix removals and hernia repairs.
Dr Purcell grew up in Toowoomba and said Warwick was similar.
"I find the work very interesting," he said.
"I like to do something that people appreciate.
"It is encouraging to know I am helping to make a difference.
"Rural general practice is my ambition and what I want to get into, and this is a great opportunity."
Dr Purcell said he had moved to Warwick with his family.
"I've got a baby on the way," he said.
"It is due in two months.
"I really like it out here."
