WITH his famous multi-coloured beard and equally as famous grin, Stuart Watt is known to the Warwick community as the science teacher who loves nothing more than a good yarn.

After 30 years of service to Warwick State High School, this iconic character of the Rose and Rodeo City has decided to call it a day.

However, while Mr Watt is retiring from his teaching career he has no plans of slowing down.

His retirement plans include a variety of science-based volunteer work and travel, including time spent on making a virtual fossil program.

"It doesn't work as yet, we need over 5000 fossils scanned to complete it but right now we only have 20," Mr Watt said.

Along with this he plans to travel out to distance education students on stations to continue his passion of teaching science.

"Nothing set in stone yet though," Mr Watt said.

While he said he would miss the classrooms, he happily reminisced on his adventures throughout his teaching career.

Times spent sharing the table with actor Sam Neill on the set of movie The Dish and meeting Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space were surprisingly not his absolute favourite memory.

"I love it when you see the students cotton on, that's the best memory."

And Mr Watt's parting advice? "Keep your options as wide as possible, for as long as possible. While continuing to look for more left and right."

Mr Watt will finish off the year teaching at Warwick State High School.

HISTORY

Stuart Watt began teaching at Warwick High in 1983.

Staff member at the Australian International space school in 1994.
