The Warwick Turf Club has unveiled a massive $1 million upgrade to Allman Park ahead of its premier race day next month, hoping the development will mark out the track as one of the best in the state.
The club was last year announced to be upgraded from a 3rd tier country club to a tier 2 TAB club, meaning several upgrades were needed.
The TAB tier system is used by Racing Queensland to determine how many meets held each year and the calibre of riders and horses that will compete.
Works included a new swabbing station, additional horse tie-up stations and a new women’s jockey room.
A five-story broadcast tower will replacing the previous one, which was too close to the track and had obstructed view which made accurately calling races a challenge.
Club president Barry Burgess said the Warwick racing industry would benefit from the upgrades.
“We needed to have a facility to match the quality of the horses and everyone involved in the races, from the breeders to trainers to those who spectate,” he said.
“The upgrades have made everything less stressful for us and more accommodating for visiting jockeys and horses, with the increase in patronage.”
Committee member Joe Levick and Harry Marshall have been heavily involved in the construction and upgrades and said they will put Warwick on the map.
“Some of the upgrades are to meet the tier 2 standard, but also the more appealing the club is, the more likely people from outside of Warwick come and visit,” Mr Levick said.
“We can run more race meets throughout the year, which is ultimately good for the community as well.”
