Warwick police on their toes after vandalism spree, knife at pub and traffic matters

A man has been arrested for allegedly having a knife at a Warwick venue over the weekend, in what shaped up to be a busy week for police. DETAILS HERE.

From vandalism sprees and traffic matters, Warwick police have been busy over the last week.

Here’s what you missed in the past seven days.

Vandalism/damage

Police investigations have been ongoing after a toilet block in Leslie Park was damaged about October 16.

A toilet door was kicked in, a flushing mechanism was damaged and toilet paper was stolen and strewn through the park. The toilet block was also graffitied.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

• Police are investigating after a utility vehicle was damaged in Palmerin St overnight on Wednesday.

The canopy on the rear of the vehicle had been smashed and tyres slashed.

• On Thursday, police received information that at some time over the last two days, offenders graffitied the public toilets at Mile End Park by spraying paint over the walls.

At around the same time, similar graffiti was reported at the public toilets near the corner of Grafton and Palmerin streets.

These matters are still under investigation.

Violence

At about 11pm on October 17, a male person was in a licenced premises in Palmerin St when police were called due to his behaviour in allegedly harassing other patrons.

During his interaction with bar staff, the male person allegedly made threats and the staff noticed that he had a knife in his possession. Police attended and arrested the 34-year-old Warwick man.

He was issued an infringement notice for public nuisance and will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on November 6 for possession of a knife in a public place.

Traffic matters

At about 8am on Thursday, a single vehicle traffic crash occurred on McEvoy St.

It is reported that the driver was travelling north in his Nissan sedan when he swerved and collided with a guardrail.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was transported to Warwick Hospital by QAS.

This matter is still under investigation by attending police.

• On Saturday, police received information shortly after 3pm that a bronze Jaguar station wagon was allegedly driving dangerously including speeding and moving to the incorrect side of the road.

Police are investigating the matter.

• At about 1.30am on Sunday morning, a 35-year-old Warwick man was located driving on Wood Street at Warwick.

Tests showed that he allegedly had a reading of 0.149 BAC. He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on November 27 for drink driving.

• Police in the Warwick Patrol Group said the taskforce remain committed to taking action against irresponsible drivers on our roads and since the start of this year, five dangerous operation offences have been finalised, along with 12 offences of wilfully make unnecessary noise or smoke, and seven instances of high end speeding (with two more still under investigation).

Theft

Police are investigating after they received information that a quantity of cash was stolen from a tent at an address in Market Square on Saturday.
