Warwick residents have another quirky event to look forward to in July, with fitness enthusiasts looking to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest jazzercise class.

Southern Downs councillor Andrew Gale is helping organise the event and said plans for the world record attempt started a few months ago.

“We had plans to run it last year, but obviously COVID go in the way,” Cr Gale said.

The councillor said it made sense to hold the unique event during the Jumpers and Jazz in July festival.

“It’s a little quirky part of a quirky event”, he said.

“It was also a chance for the community to come together to achieve something extraordinary.

“Let’s be the best in the world and as a community, become world record holders.”

Cr Gale said there was still a lot of work ahead to do and said volunteers were still needed to help verify the record.

“We’ll have drones flying over to help document the attempt,” he said.

“If you can make it 30 minutes in the mosh pit of an Ed Sheeran concert, you can do this.”

As for what to wear, it was time to bring out the Lycra.

“I’ve got my outfit already, I’ve got a headband and some hi-tops I have from the 80s,” Cr Gale said.

The event is free but you will need to book and kicks off at 9am Saturday, July 17 at 9am at Leslie Park (Corner of Albert and Palmerin Street).
