BILL Campbell was given the credit today for keeping the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland club going strongly for the last decade of its 50 years.

A crowd of around 800 was on hand at the Warwick Council Cemetery to farewell a volunteer extraordinaire and motor racing legend who died last week at age 61.

Two speakers from the Confederation of Australian Motorsport and one from the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland spoke in glowing terms of a visionary who led the Warwick District Sporting Car Club for three decades.

After the service at the cemetery, Warwick police headed a motorcade to Morgan Park Raceway for lunch and plenty of memories of a man who brought millions of dollars into the Warwick economy through his leadership of the car club and the facilities he helped build.

Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland representative Sheralyn McGlinchey said without Bill Campbell and the sporting car club, the sportsmen would not have had a track to race on.

"Our club has been around for 50 years but without the chance to race at Morgan Park Raceway for the past 10 years, we wouldn't be here," she said.

"Warwick is the smallest centre to host national championships, I remember Bill on a forklift lifting some of the bikes from Western Australia off a truck at Morgan Park for a national historic event in 2009.

"Bill Campbell has left an enduring and amazing legacy at Morgan Park. We hope his legacy will continue to shine at Morgan Park and through the driving of his grandson Matt.

"Bill had an incredible love for his family."

She said it had been a hell of a ride for her club at Morgan Park.

"We have loved every minute of it," she said.
