What started as a routine traffic stop has resulted in a young man charged with a serious drug offence after he was found in possession of a large amount of cocaine.

Texas police intercepted a 35-year-old Toowoomba man on Inglewood-Texas Rd on Sunday and found he was driving despite his licence being suspended for having lost too many demerit points.

A search of his vehicle uncovered 16 bags containing a white powder, believed to be cocaine, along with about 45g of cannabis and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested the man and charged him with driving while unlicensed, being in possession of dangerous drugs and possession of utensil to consume a dangerous drug.

He will face the Inglewood Magistrates Court on January 16.

In unrelated matters, on December 9 police intercepted a vehicle on the Inglewood-Texas Rd at Texas in relation to a traffic offence.

They searched the vehicle and found a quantity of cannabis and utensils used for smoking cannabis.

A 24-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, both from Brisbane, made admissions to being owners of some of the cannabis and utensils and were dealt with in accordance with Queensland drug diversion provisions.

On December 10, police from Warwick Highway Patrol intercepted a vehicle on Greenup St, Texas, for a roadside drug test.

The driver, a 35-year-old NSW woman, returned a positive result for drugs while checks revealed her licence was already disqualified.

Police charged the woman with driving a vehicle with an illicit substance in her system and driving while licence disqualified.

She will face the Inglewood Magistrates Court on January 30.

Texas Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Greg Finucane called on drivers to do the right thing during the holiday period.

“Police are urging drivers not to put themselves and others at risk over the Christmas period and not commit the fatal 5 – drink/drug driving, speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt, driving while tired, or driving while distracted – or any other driving offence,” he said.

“Consider the lives of others and their families.”
