Three Warwick junior rugby league teams will battle it out for grand final glory this weekend, looking to finish off a tough season with a big win.

Collegians’ U13, U15 and U17 sides will be south of the border in Tenterfield, facing off with Goondiwindi, Tenterfield and Wattles respectively.

U17 coach David Hallman says the grand final would be bittersweet regardless of the outcome.

“For the majority of the team it’s their last year in junior football and most of them have been playing together for 10-12 years,” he said.

“It’s been a big part of their lives and they’ll be walking away from the club after this weekend, so hopefully they can walk away for the last time with one more premiership under their belt.”

Hallman said he hoped the community got behind the teams.

“It’s really good for the community to have finals representation in any junior sport. I hope they’ll really get around us this weekend,” he said.

“I’ve spoken to the boys about how it’s been a tough year for the town and the club and to lead by example on and off the field. They’re doing it for their hometown this weekend, I think they can go all the way but it’ll be a tough match because Wattles have a really good side.

U15 coach Tim Doyle said his team put in a lot of work this season.

“They should be really proud of how far they’ve come this year, he said.

“Our community rallies behind the juniors really hard, and it‘s a fantastic club for parental involvement and volunteering.

“We’ve had a tough year with the flooding, and the volunteers were crucial in getting us back to tip-top shape.

“It means a lot to the kids to play in a grand final and possibly win a premiership, and it’s a lifelong memory that will stick with them forever.”

All the action will take place at the Tenterfield Rugby League park, with kick off from 9am Saturday.
