A MUCH loved teacher at St Mary's Primary School has been recognised for his generosity and willingness to help around the school, parish and community.

David Carr was the recipient of the Diocesan Sister Jo Carmichael Service Award at last week's Catholic Education Week Award ceremony.

The award was introduced last year to honour Sister Jo Carmichael who acted justly, loved tenderly and walked humbly with God.

Mr Carr has worked at St Mary's for 14 years.

"There were five recipients of the award and I was privileged to enjoy the honour of winning that," he said.

"I believe it is based on my involvement in the school, parish life and community."

Mr Carr was humbled by the recognition.

"It is good (to be recognised), but I don't think I deserve it, there are others that do more work than me," he said.

Principal Michelle Campbell said the award acknowledged his immense contribution to the school.

"A significant characteristic is his all-encompassing faith," she said.

"He engages all individuals and makes everyone feel their story is special and important."
