Three young Warwick athletes have qualified for the Queensland state titles to be held later this year.
Level four artistic gymnasts Lily Tuvuukik (under 11 division), Milla Fraguas (10-year-old division) and Ingrid De Oliveira (9-year-old division) have all qualified for the championships in Brisbane in September.
Warwick Gymnastic Club head coach Lyndsay Ryan said after COVID wiped out last year’s season, most of the gymnasts had not competed in a year-and-a-half.
Having come out of such a long period without competitions or any real certainty, Ryan said the girls were nervous but ready to showcase their talents.
“They’ve just come leaps and bounds with a lot of them qualifying in their first competition for the year,” she said.
All competitors put a huge focus on training to ensure they stuck their landings and scored the 33 points required to compete in the state championship.
Ryan said while there were a few months of training ahead of them, the athletes would travel to Brisbane three times over the next month.
“They’ll still be competing at every competition, so there’s not going to be a big boring wait for them,” she said.
Training now turns to a home competition and regional qualifiers in July.
