AS SOMEONE married to a truck driver, days like yesterday and news of another tragedy on our roads always hits home.
Hearing of the tragic death of Toowoomba truckie Bob McKillop immediately sent my thoughts rushing to the loved ones he leaves behind.
Knowing someone you love is on the road at all hours can create an all-consuming fear, if you let it, and eventually you have to learn to push it to the side enough to be able to function.
But it never really goes away.
Hearing the phone ring in the middle of the night instantly fills you with dread and before you have answered you can't help but wonder "Is this the call?"
Sadly for Mr McKillop's family, that fear yesterday became their reality.
I can't imagine the grief the family is suffering right now and offer my sincere condolences to all those affected.
And I hope all those working on the roads today make it home safely to their families tonight.
