Warwick winner jumps on plane to race in Germany

Goulburn rider wins supersport class in Warwick but his dream is to race for a living in Europe

MOTORSPORT: Goulburn rider Tom Toparis started racing motocross at age four and road racing at 16, now at 19, he is racing in two countries as he aims to build a professional career in motorcycle racing.

At the weekend, he won both races in the supersport (600cc) class as part of the Motul Pirelli Australian Superbike Championships round at Morgan Park Raceway. The wins increased his lead in the series.

Warwick was the venue for round 4 of the superbikes.

Toparis has won all four rounds this season and won every race except one.

He said it was definitely the adrenaline rush which drew him to road racing.

"The Warwick track is a bit rougher than some but it worked good for me today,” he said.

He won with the Landbridge Transport Yamaha team.

After being crowned the Warwick winner just after 2pm Sunday, Toparis was heading for the airport as he is flying back to Germany overnight Sunday for compete in the IDM Series.

He will be in Germany for six weeks and then return home for the final three rounds of the supersport series in Australia.

As for the future, Toparis knows what he wants for a career.

"I want to live in Europe, race bikes and get paid.” he said.

ABSK media manager Chris Plumrider said Warwick rounds always attract a large crowd.

"That is why we like coming back,” he said.
