RUGBY LEAGUE: A late try by centre Joe Fuimaono has secured a 22-18 Warwick Cowboys win against Dalby in TRL A grade on Sunday afternoon at Father Ranger Oval.
The win put Warwick back into third place in the competition and was a massive boost to their hopes of a top-three finish and two goes in the finals series.
In the last 15 minutes of the match, Dalby led 18-16 and went close to scoring again before Warwick took the ball downfield for fullback Craig Donn to go for a try despite four Dalby players hanging on.
The referee ruled held up and then Warwick attacked again from 10 metres out.
It was obvious to the crowd and also the Dalby players that Fuimaono would go for a try during the set and his power running was just too good for the Diehards and he stretched out to score after a 10m run.
Captain Mick Bloomfield kicked the conversion from 10m inside the touchline and Warwick led 22-18 with four minutes to go.
Warwick was again close to scoring but Dalby kept their line intact in the last four minutes.
After the game, Fuimaono said he really wanted to score as "I felt like I didn't do a lot during the game”.
"I was happy to help the team out and put some points on the board.
"You can't take anything away from Dalby, they stuck to their guns and scrambled well in defence,” he said.
Fuimaono praised the Warwick forwards for their hard work.
Donn was again outstanding under the high ball for the Cowboys and always beat the first couple of defenders each time in possession.
In reserve grade, Dalby won 35-18 and in the under-18 game, President's Cup winners Dalby won 18-16 against a spirited Warwick team.
