NETBALL: The Assumption girls' netball team are travelling home from Bundaberg today after securing a third place position in division six of the Confraternity Cup taking place in Bundaberg.

Their final game against the home side St Luke's Anglican School was a tight one, with the girls narrowly securing victory with a goal in extra time making the final score 21 to 20.

Trainer Anna Hardy was on the edge of her seat while the action unfolded.

"They have done really well, it was an intense game to watch,” she said.

After a huge week of netball, Hardy was proud of how much her team developed in the five days.

"It was an excellent week, the girls gave every game all they had,” she said.

"Obviously there are still improvements to be made, they faced such high-level competition every day which is something you don't get in Warwick.”

Confraternity Cup: Rugby league

The Assumption boys' league team had no luck in their finals games, going down to St Columban's College 8 to 34 on Thursday and Trinity College 22 to 12 today.

Trainer Carly Cooper said the boys came out with a lot of intensity but struggled with the physicality of the four days of league.

"They played with a lot of school spirit and good sportsmanship,” she said.

Player Jack Duggan won the best and fairest award for his team and Thomas Spence was awarded with spirit of the carnival.

"Jack had an excellent structured attack and was very good at organising himself on the field,” Cooper said.

"Tom was a true leader, when the boys' body language dropped he would lift them up with encouragement.”

Next year Cooper said she would be training for a stronger defensive side with some improvements on the forward tackling.
