CRICKET: A competitive cricket season is rapidly drawing to a close with semi-finals fever to hit Warwick this weekend.
Fighting for a spot in the top four, Warwick Cricket Association president Dave Walker said the battle between fourth and fifth came down to net run rate.
“Allora and Sovereign have become a lot more competitive this year,” he said.
“We had to look at the net run rate of both teams to determine who would finish in fourth, which would put them into the A grade final.
“Sovereign ended up being the better of the two, and I think it would be their first A grade final in a number of years.”
Despite narrowly missing out on the chance to play for the Condamine Cup, Walker was impressed with the depth of talent from the young Allora side.
“Jack Duggan has been really good with the ball this season, and Jamie Holmes has also been a standout from Allora,” he said.
“Allora will have the chance to get back-to-back titles in the reserve grade this year too.”
With competitive games expected in the reserve grade finals, outright ladder leaders Maryvale will face the Colts for a place in the final.
“It’s really hard to say who will win, because it’s been a really close competition – it’s really anyone’s game,” he said.
“Hopefully all of the teams have all of their players available to make the games competitive.
“Maryvale will be looking for back-to-back titles as well in the A grade competition.”
Semi-final round one draw:
Saturday (reserve grade): Allora v. Victoria Hill at Slade Park starting at 12.30pm for a 40 over game.
Sunday (A-grade): Maryvale v. Colts at Slade Park starting at 10am for a 50 over game
Wheatvale v. Sovereign at Queens Park.
