CRICKET: Warwick Hotel Colts all rounder John Cleary has won the Warwick Cricket Association Player of the Year award.

Cleary received 13 points from the umpires to win player of the year by three points from Victoria Hill all- rounder Tom Morris.

It was an outstanding effort for Cleary to win as he played a lot less games during the season than most of the other players in the reckoning for the award.

In the finals series in which Colts played three games, Cleary top scored for his team in each game and had the best bowling figures in two of the three games.

He hit nine sixes and surprisingly no fours in 71 in the grand final on Saturday. Some of his sixes were 20 metres or more over the boundary. One ball was lost during the hitting spree which resulted in drinks being taken early.

Cleary said he was happy to be able to help the young players in the Colts.

"Everyone is happy when the team is playing well,” he said.

Maryvale young gun Tom Bourke was all rounder of the year after hitting 390 runs and taking 17 wickets, including four in the A-grade grand final to win the Tom and Margaret Walsh Medal for player of the final.

In his first season in Warwick, Wheatvale batsman Harry Glasgow topped the batting aggregate with 412 runs at an average of 51.5.

Andrew Ryan made a habit of being not out whenever he made a big score and had the top average of more than 100.

With the ball, Joe Morris (Victoria Hill) and Tyhe Clarkson (Redbacks) took the most wickets, 19.

Travis Burns won the bowling average with 10 wickets at 9.5. After taking 6-12 in the Davis Shield final and 7-26 in a man of the match performance in the reserve-grade grand final, Sean Bryson won the representative player of the year award.

The Des Murphy Fielding Award was won by Tom Morris from the Victoria Hill club.
