Forecasters have warned residents to expect flooding in parts of the Southern Downs, after drenching rains saw rivers swelling and residents smiling.

Warnings of minor flooding have been issued for Boggabilla and Goondiwindi, with Warwick and the Granite Belt recording more than 50mm of rain this week.

BOM meteorologist Peter Markworth said there was a minor flood warning for the Macintyre River.

“We’ve seen substantial rainfall over the past couple of days and that water is starting to make its way downstream and we’ll start to see that river rise,” he said.

Rainfall totals of between 5 to 67 millimetres have been recorded across the Macintyre River catchment in the past 24 hours.

Texas, near Stanthorpe, has also recorded 47mm of rain the past 24 hours Mr Markworth said.

In Warwick, overnight rainfall has seen the Condamine River spill onto parts of Queens Park with some of the walking tracks under water.

Early morning risers keen to brave a run in the rain were turned away from this morning’s weekly Parkrun, with minor flooding on the Condamine River cancelling the event.

Run director Ray Lewis said while it was normally a rain, hail or shine event, today was different.

“There is rain on the course, so it’s just not safe,” Ms Lewis said.

Rain is expected to ease today with finer conditioning forecast for Sunday.
