A man who was allegedly armed with a gun during a dramatic siege in Warwick this week has been charged and appeared in court for the first time.

It will be alleged Liam Christopher Berry, 24, was in possession of an unauthorised firearm when they completed a welfare check at a Bisley St home at about 9.45am Monday.

Police say they first went to the scene after a woman called triple-0 for assistance, but Mr Berry was in the house alone during the incident.

The scene was shut off under an emergency declaration at about 11am the same day as police and specialist officers continued to negotiate with the man, with the impacted area including Bisley St, Tooth St, Bracker Rd, and Cullen St.

Mr Berry was arrested half an hour later without further incident, and the emergency measures were revoked shortly afterwards.

It is understood he was initially taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment under an examination authority before being returned to police custody and charged.

The Sunshine Coast man now faces one charge of unlawful possession of weapons.

Mr Berry appeared in Warwick Magistrates Court on Tuesday and did not make an application for bail.

He will be remanded in custody until his matter is next mentioned in the Warwick court on October 17.

Darling Downs District duty officer acting Senior Sergeant Ray Van Der Bosch said on Monday afternoon that no injuries were reported during the incident.

“Intelligence and information received at the time indicated the male might have been armed, and as such police had to respond in a fairly intensive way to ensure public safety in the area,” he said.

“Our goal was always to resolve the matter with the least amount of force.”

“We were fortunate to locate the male person at the address, and through negotiation and de-escalation techniques, we were able to assist that person in achieving the medical help they needed.”
