Police are yet to locate a man who allegedly assaulted a Warwick police officer during his court appearance before fleeing the scene, almost 24 hours after his initial escape.
Police allege Clayton Michael-Johan Alvoen was being escorted to the Warwick Magistrates Court from the watch-house at about 2.30pm on Wednesday when he headbutted the police officer, then ran away from the scene.
The Queensland Police Service reported an extensive search was launched for the 28-year-old Stanthorpe man, but officers believed he may have been driven away from the scene by others.
“Investigations have continued overnight and (Thursday) morning with known associates and haunts for the man, with police appealing to the man or anyone with him to immediately contact them,” they said.
Mr Alvoen was before the court on charges relating to assault, drugs, domestic violence, and bail conditions.
QPS confirmed “police have taken all necessary action in relation to those involved in the (domestic violence) matters”.
The Stanthorpe man is described as having a fair complexion with black hair and brown eyes, and is approximately 180cm tall with a slim build.
The injured officer was treated for a facial cut at Warwick Hospital.
