Warwick police investigating theft, serious assault offences

All was not well in the streets of the Rose City last week with local police responding to a number of serious offences, as well as a road fatality. Full details here.

It has been an unfortunate week resulting in a tragedy on the Southern Downs after a life was lost on the Cunningham Highway.

Warwick police responded to a number of serious offences in the region, with a number of alleged offenders to later front court.

PROPERTY OFFENCES

• The residents of a property in Pratten St received a rude shock when their Toyota utility was stolen while they were inside their home.

Police allege offenders entered the property in the morning of April 8, taking the vehicles’ keys while the residents were inside the home.

It’s further alleged the vehicle was then driven away from the property by the offenders and was located two days later in Glennie Heights undamaged.

• Warwick police received a report that multiple chainsaws have allegedly been stolen from a shed on a Wood St property within the past 18 months.

• Investigations are ongoing into an incident that allegedly occurred at an Albion St property on April 11.

It will be alleged the property owner returned home to find a number of people sitting inside his house, who were then asked to leave.

The individuals have left the property at the owners’ request and police were notified of the incident.

PUBLIC NUISANCE & ASSAULT

• Warwick police attended an address on Horsman Rd where they spoke with a 33-year-old man in relation to public nuisance and driving offences.

It’s alleged when police then arrested the man a struggle broke out and he was additionally charged with obstructing police.

The 33-year-old man will later appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.

• Police have charged an 18-year-old Warwick man after he was allegedly involved in a fight at Rose City Shopping Centre on April 12.

It’s alleged that during the incident, the victim has hit his head on nearby footpath and was required to be taken to Warwick Hospital.

The 18-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and will later appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.

TRAFFIC OFFENCES

• A 30-year-old Warwick man has been charged with drink driving after he was stopped for a random breath test on Yangan Rd around 11.30pm on April 12.

The man is alleged to have returned a breath analysis reading of 0.099 and will later appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.

Warwick police would like to remind residents the station is now operating out of premises at 35 Guy St and all phone numbers for the station remain the same.
