Businesses warned to be aware of cyber scams

Warwick police are investigating another car theft as they continue to search for the offenders behind the latest spate of property-related crime across the town.

Thieves targeted a Briggs St home between 11pm Tuesday and 2am Wednesday, breaking into the house and pocketing a set of car keys that they then used to steal a Mazda station wagon parked in the driveway.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said the vehicle was missing for more than 24 hours before being dumped in the Harvey Norman car park at about 3.30pm Thursday.

“Police are speaking to some witnesses who saw some people get out of the car, and there’s CCTV footage as well,” he said.

It comes as detectives are still hunting the burglars behind a string of break-ins at Warwick businesses last week, which saw the offenders strike at two auto repairs workshops, The Dairy Lounge, and Cleaning and Catering in just over 48 hours.

No charges have been laid in relation to any incident at this stage.

Warwick’s marked rise in drug driving numbers this year does not appear to be slowing down, with another five residents now due to face court on drug driving charges.

A 59-year-old Warwick man, a 56-year-old Warwick man, and a 21-year-old Warwick woman were all charged with drug driving on Wednesday alone after they were allegedly nabbed behind the wheel with substances in their system.

All three are expected to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on August 8.

Another two residents were charged with the same offence after being pulled over by police on the weekend, with the 21-year-old Warwick woman and 51-year-old Warwick man due to face court for the first time on June 27.
