Magistrate Virginia Sturgess warned Tyler Nathan James Brown in court on Monday.

“The substance in question is a pain killer and often has a sedative effect, and is used to treat depression or act as a sleeping pill in some respects,” Mr Chapman said.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess warned Brown it may be tempting to share prescription medication but it was not appropriate.

“It isn’t safe to take other people’s medication, it can be a public safety issue, a real risk,” Ms Sturgess said.

“You simply can’t share it, the fine for these sorts of matters can be significant as it is a serious issue.”

Brown was fined $300 and no conviction was recorded.
