Southern Downs crime wrap: Police kept busy in another week of drink drivers and break-ins

The Rose City has yet again been victim to a number of serious crimes in the past week. See the latest here.

Southern Downs police weren’t among those having a ‘grape’ time during Stanthorpe’s Apple and Grape Harvest Festival, with a spate of serious offences high on their radar this past week.

TRAFFIC OFFENCES

• A traffic crash at the intersection of Guy and Wood streets on February 26 saw a 28-year-old Warwick man issued with a fine after his vehicle allegedly cut across the path of an another.

No occupants were injured as a result of this traffic crash.

• An unknown male who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs was spotted by passers by getting into a vehicle on Fitzroy St at around 11am on February 28.

Police intercepted the male driver a short time later and he was taken to the Warwick Police Station for further testing.

It’s alleged the driver was uncooperative with police in obtaining a sample and was charged with failing to provide a specimen for breath analysis.

He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court later this month.

• Police stopped an 18-year-old Womina man at around 5.30pm on February 29 for a random breath test, with the man allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.027.

The provisional driver will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court later this month.

• A 35-year-old Greymare man was stopped just before midnight on Saturday for a random breath test on Montrose Lane.

Police allege he failed to provide a sample for analysis and was charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath when required.

BREAK AND ENTER

• A 19-year-old Warwick man has been charged with both drug related offences and break and enter after police allegedly found a quantity of cannabis at an address on Fitzroy St on February 29.

Police allege he was involved in the break and enter of a shop in Rose City Shoppingworld in the days prior which saw an amount of cash and an EFTPOS terminal stolen.

• Police investigations are continuing into the break and enter of a fuel station on Albion St Sunday night.

Detectives will review CCTV footage of a vehicle that was parked nearby around the time of the offending which also saw a dashcam system stolen.

OBSTRUCT POLICE

• A 54-year-old Warwick man has been charged with obstructing police after officers attended a domestic disturbance on Oxenham St at around 9pm on February 29.

Police allege one of the males involved refused to comply with police directions, and when told he was under arrest became involved in a scuffle with officers.

He was transported to the watch-house and will later this month appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.
