A man believed to be responsible for shooting another man in broad daylight on a busy Warwick street has not yet been tracked down by police, more than 24 hours after the dramatic incident.
Officers were called to the scene on Wallace St at about 9.20am on Tuesday, where a 37-year-old Warwick man had been shot in the stomach.
Warwick Police acting Inspector Jamie Deacon said on Tuesday that a small silver sedan or hatchback pulled up beside the Warwick resident, and another man inside fired the single shot at the victim before the car drove off.
“Police enquiries are being conducted into the identity of the offender, and (he) is outstanding,” he said.
“We believe the parties to be known to each other, and we don’t believe there is any further threat to the Warwick community.”
Inspector Deacon said the relationship between the men and whether the shooter was known to police remained under investigation.
The injured man was taken to Warwick Hospital before being flown to Brisbane to undergo surgery for the abdominal wound.
The victim was in a critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon and is understood to still be in hospital.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday morning that investigations were ongoing and no one had been taken into custody in relation to the shooting.
Inspector Deacon also appealed for anyone who was on Wallace St between Bracker Rd and Locke St near the time of the shooting and may have dashcam footage to come forward.
“To prompt people’s attention, there may have been a broken-down vehicle on the southbound side of Wallace St with people milling around that vehicle,” he said.
He could not confirm whether the victim was offering assistance to those with the broken-down car at the time.
