A Warwick FIFO worker has faced court after he was busted with a stash of homegrown magic mushrooms and marijuana in his house.
Police raided Kyle Anthony Hall’s Warwick home at about 11am on July 22, and were forced to let themselves in at the back door when they were unable to be heard over Hall’s blaring music.
Warwick Magistrates Court heard it was when officers went around to the back of the house that they found seven marijuana seedlings growing in a pot near the back steps.
Prosecutor Bettina Trenear said the 41-year-old told officers he was growing the marijuana for himself and soon came clean about the more unusual drugs in his house.
Ms Trenear said police soon found 31g of magic mushrooms that Hall had grown in the six weeks leading up to the search, which were also to be for his own recreational use.
Defence lawyer Bonnie O’Brien told the court her client was given the seeds and planted them as an experiment before flying out for work, and planned to use the drug to alleviate his anxiety.
She added Hall underwent frequent drug testing as a manager on an offshore rig in the Bass Strait and had never recorded a positive result, but was now working with his GP to prevent any further drug use.
Hall pleaded guilty to two counts of producing dangerous drugs and a further count of possessing dangerous drugs.
He was fined $700 and no conviction was recorded.
