Jakob Daniel Fogarty: Warwick man shoves pregnancy test, fishing line down pants in bizarre theft

A pregnancy test and fishing line were among the strange array of items the Warwick man smuggled out of a major retailer.

A Warwick man who smuggled several stolen items from a major retailer by shoving them down his pants has pleaded guilty to the bizarre theft in court.

Jakob Daniel Fogarty and an unidentified friend went into Big W in Rose City Shoppingworld on June 6, with the pair selecting a range of seemingly random items.

Warwick Magistrates Court heard the 20-year-old picked up hair dye, a pregnancy test, a Nintendo Switch travel kit, and fishing line worth $51.50 in total.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said Fogarty shoved the items down his pants and the pair walked out of the store without making any attempt to pay for them.

Sergeant de Lissa said staff soon reported the stolen goods and Fogarty was identified as the culprit using CCTV footage.

The Warwick man did not appear in person, instead entering his plea through a short letter to the court.

Fogarty pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorised dealing with shop goods worth less than $150.

He was fined $100 and ordered to pay the full amount of restitution to Big W. No conviction was recorded.
