Angus Gale: Man who made woman live in terror for 20 months refuses to acknowledge nor apologise

A Queensland man who tormented his female housemate for 20 months by invading her privacy through spying on her with hidden cameras, has appeared ‘unremorseful’ following his court appearance.

A Warwick man who tormented a woman while serveiling and “monitoring” her over the course of 20 months has lashed out after he was confronted on national TV following his sentencing last month.

Angus William Gale was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of observations or recording in breach of privacy in Warwick Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 8.
Gale was sentenced to 18 months release under supervision, required to report in person to a parole officer and attend counselling by magistrate Andrew Cridland, with no conviction recorded.

Son of Southern Downs Regional councillor Andrew Gale, the father-of-one Angus “traumatised” his victim, a young Warwick woman, who was his flatmate at the time, the court was told.

The disturbing recording made through hidden cameras in the woman’s bedroom took place over a number of months before she found out his depraved actions, with the woman brave enough to make copies of the creepy files found on the camera’s SD card.

“I don’t care. I don’t give a s--t,” he said after being confronted by A Current Affair’s Chris Allen.

Speaking to News Corp, the family of the victim said Gale’s offending took a terrible toll on the woman, including causing her to “live in fear” and barely leaving her bedroom to avoid contact with the now 22-year-old.

After 20 months of torment, the woman finally was able to rise above Gale’s creepy behaviour, telling family members about the ordeal she was suffering from in silence before going quickly to local police.

When approached by an A Current Affair journalist and camera crew on Monday’s broadcast, Gale appeared annoyed, snapping at the reporter with, “I don’t give a f---k” after being asked if there was any excuse to his behaviour.

The victim’s mother, Ann Campbell, told News Corp on Tuesday that she believed Gale wanted the story swept under the rug so he can move on with his life.

The family are also not happy with the verdict and believe a conviction should have been recorded in the sentence and refer to it as a “slap on the wrist”.

“We don’t think he’s sorry, you can see on the footage there’s no remorse at all. We’re disgusted,” Ms Campbell said.

“What about my little girl? My daughter never had any mental health issues before this year and he just wants to carry on with his life. He says that he doesn’t care, yet my daughter is blatantly still traumatised by this.”

Ms Campbell said many commenters were outraged on social media regarding the sentencing of Gale, and it was a “joke”.

“We were happy we were able to name and shame this dirty little man, and we don’t feel like it’s over but this could be just the beginning,” she said.

The family were well and truly happy with ACA host Ally Langdon’s closing statement, calling Gale a “grub”.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in Australia that doesn’t think that now, and although we’re not happy with (the sentence) we’re somewhat happy with that,” Ms Campbell said.

Public response

Following the national publication of the broadcast, social media users were quick to get their thoughts out regarding the matter.

“Wow, I can’t comprehend how firstly he has no remorse and doesn’t care,” one commenter said.

“That’s disappointing, she deserves to feel safe,” another wrote.

“How shameless is this guy. Only thing he regrets is getting caught. Justice doesn't work for the victims at all.”
