Investigations ongoing after rider dies at Tregony, east of Warwick

Paramedics, police and a rescue helicopter rushed to a Queensland motocross track after a rider came off his bike at speed and suffered critical injuries. Sadly, he could not be saved.

Police and Work Safety Queensland will investigate a crash at a private motocross track that claimed a man’s life on Saturday.

The news has left members of the motocross community shattered as they shared their heartbreak and condolences via social media.

“Man down in the moto community, condolences to the family and everyone involved including the staff at Gap Creek Moto much love,” Troy Cooper wrote.

“RIP condolences to the families, sad to see a fellow rider go out enjoying what he loved,” Reece Sidney Brand wrote.

“Ride in peace,” Tommy Miller wrote.

Emergency crews were called to Gap Creek Moto track on the Cunningham Highway at Tregony about 11.45am after a rider came off his bike and suffered life-threatening chest injuries.

A rescue helicopter was called in while paramedics conducted CPR on the man.

Sadly, the rider, a man aged in his 40s could not be saved.

Gap Creek Moto is a privately owned dirt bike and camping facility, about 10km west of Cunningham’s Gap.

The business announced via its Facebook page that it would be closed for the weekend.

A spokeswoman for the business declined to comment further about what happened.

The sprawling 650 acres facility included two senior, two junior and one mixed moto tracks along with about 20km of enduro trails.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Gap Creek Moto park advised that it would be closed until further notice following the fatality.

“We’re absolutely shattered and are navigating this the best we can,” the statement read.

“The mental and emotional wellbeing of the family and friends and all those affected, our staff, customers, and wider moto community are our number one priority at this time.

“We would like to thank our staff, customers, the medical professionals, police, Motorcycling Australia and our family and friends that have offered support.

“Thank you for your understanding and respecting the decision.”

The Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit will work with Work Safety Queensland to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
