Owner reveals truth behind Warwick's most mysterious house

THE man sometimes seen mowing the lawn of Warwick's most mysterious house has spoken out in a bid to quash rumours about a mass murder that have run rampant in the community for 30 years.

Gordon Mason owns the small brick house on the corner of Pratten and William Sts and said there wasn't an ounce of truth to suggestions that his house was haunted, abandoned or the scene of a violent crime.

In fact, the building has strong sentimental ties to his father, Frank Mason, who was a bricklayer and stone mason in Warwick.

"He built the house when I was young,” Mr Mason said.

Mr Mason said his father also did work on St Mark's Church, one of Warwick's most iconic buildings.

Not far off retirement, Mr Mason is planning to finish renovations to the house and spend the rest of his years in Warwick.

But he's worried the rumours about his property are getting out of control.

"Kids have come up to me off the street and said 'how can you live there? There are ghosts in that house',” he said.

"It is nonsense. I don't have any bodies in the freezer. No one died here.”

Mr Mason, who installs surveillance cameras and alarms for a living, said he had taken extra measures to secure the house.

Currently living in Brisbane, Mr Mason is looking forward to permanently moving back to the address and finishing off the project his father started.

"I come up every month no matter what and stay in the house overnight,” he said. "I like Warwick.”
