AUSSIES have the World Cup and according to one columnist, the best player in the world.

AFTER watching two series between Australia and South Africa in 2017 and this year's World Cup, I have seen enough polocrosse to state my opinion that Lucy Grills is the best player in the sport.

Everything she does is almost perfect and you can judge her importance to the team as she is rarely moved from No.3 (defence).

She is strong from the line-up in midfield and often picks a loose ball to put her team on the attack and has won best female player awards in 2017 and again last week.

There were male players from South Africa, Australia and Zambia who may have been considered the best before this cup but after watching a lot of the games, it's Lucy for me without a shadow of a doubt.

Second generation

It was interesting to watch Callum Brook and Anthony O'Leary playing for the Queensland intermediate men's team in the Barastoc Interstate Series last weekend.

Their parents have been top players over the years.

I was impressed with the ability of the pair - Brook as a goal scorer and O'Leary in centre field.

There are many second- or third-generation players in Queensland teams but they were the two I saw during the support tournament to the Adina Polocrosse World Cup.

Races in a week

The Ergon Energy Warwick Picnic Races are on today week at Allman Park.

The racetrack, like all our sporting fields, are in top condition as we are having a late summer and still haven't had a frost. Irrigation of recycled water helps as well.

Well-known former Melbourne trainer Peter Moody will be at the Picnic Races.
