On your marks, get set, go

THE small country town of Leyburn will come to life with close to 200 cars gearing up to start their engines for the 17th annual Historic Leyburn Sprints event.

THE small country town of Leyburn will come to life today with close to 200 cars gearing up to start their engines for the 17th annual Historic Leyburn Sprints event.

Leyburn is about 60km away from Warwick and the event promises to deliver an action-packed weekend.

TODAY

7.30am: Drivers' briefing

8am: Competition starts

1pm: Official opening including the National Anthem performed by Leyburn State School Choir

2pm: Hot Lap Draw - winners names will be announced immediately over the course PA. Winners must be on-course to claim their prize.

5pm: Competition closes.

TOMORROW

8am: Competition starts

1pm: Hot Lap Draw - winners names will be announced immediately over the PA. Winners must be on-course to claim their prize.

1pm: Shannons Show and Shine award presentations

3pm: Competition ends

3.30pm: Presentation in front of the Royal Hotel.

Brian Dunn: Zooming around in a 1995 blue and white Arrow SE

Greg Newey: Red and white 1966 MG MGB

Bruce Bunch: 1972 Holden HQ.

Shannons Show and Shine sure to delight

The off-track highlight of this year's event.

It will only be held tomorrow, showcasing classic and modern cars of all kinds.

The display will be on the grassed area opposite the start/finish line.

Individuals and clubs will enter cars in 14 classes.

So whether you are an owner or spectator there will be dozens of great cars to see.

COMMENTATORS

The event will once again be commentated by motorsport legend Will Hagon and local commentator Jamie Lawson.

Getting to the action from Warwick

Head out along the Cunningham Highway towards Wheatvale.

Turn right at the Toowoomba/Karara exit and follow the signs to Leyburn.

COST

Tickets are available at the gate during the event. Gates open 6.30am.

Adult: $15 a day or $25 for weekend pass

Children: Free under 14 (school ID required)
