Oakey dad Wade Andrew Briese pleads guilty to DVO breach by hacking ex-partner’s dating apps
A labourer who tried to hack into his former partner’s dating profiles told police he was blinded by jealousy months after his relationship broke down.
A Darling Downs tradesman was brought before court for breaching a domestic violence order after he tried to hack into his former partner’s dating profiles.
Wade Andrew Briese, 37, appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, September 10, and pleaded guilty to breaching his domestic violence order by not being of good behaviour.
The DVO was put in place by the Oakey Magistrates Court in March 2025, and the court heard the breach occurred on Monday, July 14.
Police prosecutor William Shin said on that day Briese tried to sign in to a number of the woman’s online accounts.
He said when police took up with Briese about the hacking attempt, he conceded his actions weren’t “of good behaviour,” in regard to the order’s conditions, and told the officer he “wasn’t thinking straight” and “jealous”.
The court was told when security texts were sent to Briese’s former partner, he immediately stopped trying to access the accounts.
Magistrate Sue Ganesan told Briese despite it being the first time he breached the order, his early plea and co-operation with police, the court needed to send a message to him and the community that any breach of a DVO was not okay.
Briese was placed on a $400 recognisance order to be of good behaviour for the next six months and had no conviction recorded.
Queensland legislation used to prohibit the reporting of court cases that related to DVO breaches, however that changed in May following recommendations made to the state government by the Special Taskforce on Domestic and Family Violence in Queensland.
The Not Now, Not Ever report recommendations to the state government aim to hold DV perpetrators to account and better protect survivors.
