A 72-year-old man has died after his three-wheeled motorcycle collided with a caravan being towed by a four-wheel-drive in the opposite direction.
The man, from Kensington Grove in the Lockyer Valley, sustained fatal injuries in the accident on the Cunningham Highway near the intersection with South Branch Rd, about 40km northeast of Warwick, about 10.30am on Sunday.
The crash closed the highway in both directions.
One person posted on social media the crash happened near Gap Cree. “We passed it just after it happened.’’
“We just came (through) they were sending people back way into Maryvale,’’ another wrote.
Those caught up in the drama said there were lengthy delays as traffic was diverted.
“Yep sadly on the goat track for the diversion at the minute. Adds a big chunk of travel time, so much traffic! So many bikes and so many caravans being last day of school hols and there’s been a bit of wild stuff happening on the roads,’’ Donna-Maree Willett wrote.
The victim had been riding a Harley-Davidson Freewheeler. One witness said the bike was sky blue.
Many posted comments of condolences for the family, saying it. was ‘so sad’.
