A jealous Granite Belt man has called his ex’s new beau disturbingly abusive and harassing names like necrophile and paedophile in retaliation for taking up with his ex.
Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa told the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court Mark Anthony Ryan sent harassing and offensive text messages to his ex’s new partner on April 4.
“(Ryan) has accused (his ex’s partner) through these text messages of being a paedophile, necrophile, being a homosexual and a homewrecker,” Sergeant de Lissa said.
Sgt de Lissa said the new partner was offended by these messages and asked Ryan to stop sending them, but he persisted.
“(Ryan) admitted to sending the messages as he was upset that the (victim) was in a relationship with his former partner,” he said.
Defence lawyer Phillip Crook told the court his client said he was provoked by his ex’s partner, claiming the other man threatened his life and assaulted his brother.
The court heard Ryan battled mental health issues including schizophrenia, OCD, depression, bipolar and PTSD for most of his life.
Magistrate Julian Noud said the 44-year-old’s behaviour was both violent and unacceptable.
Ryan pleaded guilty to one count of using a carriage service to harass or cause offence.
He was fined $550.
