Jesse Keenan Reece Miller busted for multiple driving charges, evasion offence after posting ad for bike on social media

A 18-year-old has racked up a hefty fine after using fake plates on a dangerous vehicle and speeding away from police. The way officers found him is astonishing.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A Warwick teen’s ‘foolish’ actions while driving two different vehicles has landed him with a hefty fine and a stern dressing down by the magistrate, who labelled the incident as‘extremely fortunate’ he wasn’t killed.

Jesse Keenan Reece Miller pleaded guilty to 13 charges over three different occasions, ranging from driving unregistered, driving an unroadworthy vehicle, using false plates and evading police on Monday.

The 18-year-old racked up the charge list on one occasion on January 29, and two occasions on February 2.

The court heard on the morning of January 29, police intercepted the learner driver in a car with wrong plates on Wentworth Street before Miller sped up then stopped for the officers where it was discovered the car was uninsured and unregistered.

The plates on the car had been switched from another vehicle, and officers uncovered Miller had a suspended licence.

Days later on February 2, officers caught Miller on a trail bike on Cleary Street where he was found unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured and defective by an off-duty police officer.

Miller sped from officers, who had activated their lights and sirens and narrowly missed colliding into the back of a ute.

The pursuit was called off due to concerns for the safety of the man as well as officers.

Later the same day, the young driver was busted at Rose Street, while again being unlicensed, with the bike being unregistered, uninsured and noted as defective.

That evening police found on social media that Miller had put the bike up for sale, leading them to attend his address the next day, where they located the bike which he had painted black.

Miller told police the reason he did not stop for the officers was due to the fact the bike had no brakes, further inspection revealed the bike also lacked an indicator, lights, horn as well as no braking system. The engine was also welded on to the mainframe of the bike, meaning it was “incapable of being roadworthy”.

Defence lawyer Hamish Chapman told the court Miller had racked up a number of driving offences in a short period of time and that Miller had just found himself consistent employment by cutting firewood and was a “self sufficient” person.

Mr Chapman also noted that Miller had a “myriad” of prospects and had TAFE qualifications.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said Miller’s actions showed that the man had not been taking his obligations of driving safely “very seriously”.

“It is a very, very foolish thing to do, particularly the evasion offence, but also to drive unregistered and uninsured vehicles, and to attach false plates to conceal the identity of the vehicle,” she told him.

“It’s very foolish to drive on a motorcycle that is in such an unroadworthy state that you told police that you were unable to stop as you had no breaks.

“Police witnessed you almost colliding with a ute, it’s extremely fortunate that this didn’t end up being much worse. You could have been killed or injured driving a motorcycle like that.

“You obviously have the maturity to make sensible decisions, but at 18, we expect if you’re capable of getting a drivers licence, you're capable of complying with the road rules and doing what everyone is expected to do.”

Miller was fined $7500 for all offences and suspended from driving for two years.
