Malt House Warwick to reopen more than a year after popular pub’s closure

The popular pub has taken its first definite step towards throwing open its doors more than a year after its sudden and mysterious closure. Here’s what we know so far.

The team behind one of Warwick’s most popular restaurants and pubs has indicated the venue could soon reopen more than a year after its sudden and mysterious closure.

The Malt House Warwick has been closed since a fire tore through the Wood Street venue in May last year, causing close to $250,000 in damages.

A number of furniture items were then removed from the building in August last year, which a Malt House spokesman told the Daily News were being taken to the pub’s “sister establishment” Prohibition Brisbane.

“Rules regarding pubs and clubs have changed again and everyone must stay seated while drinking/eating. They just needed a few extra chairs and since we aren’t using them currently – they have borrowed them,” he said at the time.

After more than a year of silence from the pub’s management, a job ad was posted to Seek on Sunday searching for a new venue manager to work on a full-time basis at the Malt House.

It states the pub will trade from 8pm – 2am on Friday and Saturday nights with the potential for future growth.

While the pub’s management team have remained adamant the popular venue would be reopening, the advertisement is the first definite sign of the venue’s impending return.

The Daily News attempted to contact management for further comment, but did not receive a response by deadline.

The Malt House first opened in 2017 under the brand of bringing city-style dining and night-life to the country, and it quickly became one of the town’s most popular venues.

Its rooftop bar became a particular favourite of Warwick’s younger residents for its late-night DJing and dancefloor.
