It’s shaping up to be a big weekend for the sport of polocrosse as hundreds of horses and riders come to the Rose City from across Australia and the world for three days of equestrian action.

World Polocrosse highlights Day 2

One of the biggest weekends on the sporting calendar is about to begin with polocrosse players from across the country, and the world, arriving in the Rose City.

From May 5-7, Warwick will host a plethora of events featuring local, interstate and international equestrians, with all the action taking place at Morgan Park.

Headlining the weekend’s action will be the Barastoc Interstate Polocrosse Series, the Shell Cup Carnival and the Australia v Rest of the World test series, with the Warwick Polocrosse Club hoping people make the trip to the Rose City even if they’re not familiar with the sport.

With young local talent featured, this weekend’s event is gearing up to be the one of the biggest for the sport since Warwick hosted the 2019 Polocrosse World Cup.

Warwick Polocrosse chairman Les Fraser said he was already excited for the weekend, and was keen to see all the events unfold through the various competitions.

“It’ll be one of the biggest events in the polocrosse world this year, it might be a minority sport, but it’s played across Australia and we will have players coming from all over the country, and overseas,” Mr Fraser said.

“We’re very fortunate in Warwick to have developed our complex at Morgan Park, it is without a double the best in the polocrosse complex in the world and it will be excellent to show off some of the players from here and around Australia.

“Australia is home to some of the best breeders of horses and it’s a great event to be able to host and show it off, we’re terribly proud that we can host it.”

On Saturday, Australia will play a ‘rest of the world’ side, with multinational athletes from South Africa, America, the UK and more making up the side to play the national side.

Mr Fraser hoped that everyone would get involved, regardless of experience with the sport, and said the club hoped people would travel to see the unique showcase of events.

“It’ll be massive. We’re quite used to running big events here in Warwick, including three World Cups, and we’re ready and adapted to run big events,” he said.

The club expects about 700 horses to be on the ground throughout the weekend, with competitors keen to show off their horses.

“I think I’m looking forward to seeing us play the rest of the world the most, I think it will be very competitive and will produce some excellent polocrosse,” Mr Fraser said.
