The Stanthorpe community has rallied enormous support for a Pikes Creek family who have faced relentless challenges these past two years.

Sky Waldock is the backbone of her family of four, taking on the role of full time carer of her children all of which have conditions which require a high level of care.

For Sky’s second eldest, his severe disability has meant complete dependency on his mother.

Unable to walk, talk, feed or bathe himself, Sky is required to tend to his every need while also caring for three other children.

Their current family car is not wheelchair friendly and has made attending the childrens multiple appointments per week quite difficult.

Fellow Stanthorpe resident Shannon Cox set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the final amount of funds needed to secure a new car that can carry the whole family.

The campaign has managed to raise more than $3000 since Friday, leaving Shannon speechless by the community’s endearing support of her dear friend.

“It’s so wonderful to see how many people have been happy to support,” Mrs Cox said.

“I was quite shocked when I got an email from the GoFundMe team telling me the fundraiser had already reached $2500 (in a few short days).”

Having only met at the beginning of the year through a local women’s group, their bond has only grown stronger.

The Waldock family has managed to come across a vehicle which could comfortably fit all five of them, and even has room for a wheelchair.

The family has been saving desperately in order to make a final payment to secure their dream car, yet are shy just about $5000.

Mrs Cox said the current owners of the car had been very understanding of the Waldock’s situation and graciously put the vehicle on hold until the remaining funds could be secured.

“It would be so lovely if they could get to their goal,” she said.

Mrs Cox said the community support has been pouring in, with a generous donation recently made by an anonymous business.

Having faced a period of homlessness while living in Brisbane, the Waldock’s have fought many battles and with such tremendous support from the community are well on their way to receiving a Christmas miracle.

The Waldock family are now just $2000 shy from reaching their goal.

For anyone wanting to help brighten the Waldock families Christmas, you can donate through the gofundme here.
