The dedicated support of his fellow Irishman has seen more than $35,000 raised for Brisbane-based Sean McIvor, who was seriously injured at Morgan Park Raceway.
Mr McIvor collided with another bike on the raceway on Saturday during a circuit, which saw his right knee and ankle bear the brunt of the fall and he was flown to Brisbane’s PA Hospital for emergency surgery.
The impact of the fall saw a break in Mr McIvor’s right fibula, his knee smashed and ankle dislocated, causing an issue with the blood flow to his foot.
Friend of more than a decade Steven Feery, also from Ireland, set up a GoFundMe to help relieve the financial burden for Mr McIvor and his partner Rose, while he recovers over the coming months.
“I want him to be able to focus on his recovery and not have to worry about any bills,” he said.
“We have a big Irish community here in Australia, so it’s been great to see everyone chipping in to help out.”
Sean is set to undergo knee reconstruction surgery later in the week, Mr Feery said.
The fundraiser is set to reach $40,000, having already received more than 90 donations and is currently sitting at $35,850.
