Travellers came from all over Queensland have made their way to Warwick for the school holidays, with many getting an authentic Warwick experience at the iconic Pig and Calf Sale.

Warwick produce seller Peter Cary has attended the weekly event for many years and knows the importance of providing fresh, quality fruit and vegetables to the region.

It has been a tough few years for growers in the region, with labour shortages, droughts and floods ruining harvests, but Mr Cary says he loved being a part of the vital industry.

“I go everywhere from Clifton to Pittsworth, as well as wholesale deliveries in Warwick,” he said.

“By cutting out the middleman and buying straight from local farms, I’m able to sell at market price.

“I think it’s important that people know the produce they’re enjoying comes from just down the road, and it supports the jobs around the area as well.”

Garry Brown is a local craftsman and occasional seller who handmakes axes, flyswatters, belts, leather pouches and his own invention, the Shark Weeder.

His invention is used to pull weeds from the ground, saving the user having to bend over and pull it by hand.

“I love the craftsmanship, I could start at 7 o’clock in the morning and before I realise, its 3 or 4 in the afternoon,” Mr Brown said.

“It’s a great feeling creating things that people can use and they don’t realise they need.

“Some of the items like the axes can take days to finish. I take pride in what I make and I hope you can tell by the craftsmanship.”
