After an autumn of extremes from dry weather to floods, the first week of winter is set to be an unseasonably warm one for Warwick residents.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Livio Regano said the coldest nights were behind the town for now.
“In simple terms, the morning frosts will shrink over the next couple days,” Mr Regano said.
Mr Regano added that while the first half of the week looked clear of rain, a chance of showers would develop on Thursday.
“By Wednesday, there will be a little bit of extra cloud starting to increase,” he said.
“Thursday there will be some rain, but it won’t be heavy, around 10 to 15mm.
“There might even be some storms in the evening.”
Mr Regano said if storms eventuated, they could bring up to 30mm of isolated rain in Warwick.
The less than frosty and rainy beginning to winter comes after significant rainfall in March saw the region record well above average totals for autumn.
BOM data revealed Warwick recorded 51mm of rain in May, well above the average of 36mm.
While April’s rainfall figures were slightly below average at 29mm, a whopping 278mm in March alone boosted Warwick’s overall figures.
Looking ahead at this week’s forecast, Mr Regano said the region could expect maximums in the low 20s before a cool change on Friday.
“It may even start on Thursday night when the rain comes through,” he said.
He added residents would be feeling winter really set in by the weekend, with frosty starts likely to be back early next week.
