Jim Gilmore

Jim Gilmore was nominated by stepdaughters Lesleigh Hurley and Wendy Maree Clark for being a massive pillar of their family and the community.

“Jim has 12 kids that he loves equally. He’s got a great heart and is a really good listener, he’s great at giving advice and has taught me so many valuable life lessons, and he gives the best hugs,” Ms Hurley said.

“My favourite memory of him is building fences with him, he taught me all the skills I’ll need to care for my own family and build my own property one day.”

Ms Hurley said her stepfather is also a familiar face to many others in the community.

“He used to do the bus runs in town and they still come up to him and say hello,” she said.

“Some of them have their own families now, but he’s made that mark and touched everyone in some way.”

Ms Clark said she admired his ability to love all his stepchildren as his own.

“There’s no distinction between them. Not only has he taken all of us as his own, but he’s accepted the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always spends time with them and gives them attention,” she said.

“(As children) we would go bike riding every afternoon and go to dances together, and the reason I nominated him was the unconditional support and love.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him Sunday because I don’t get to spend many Father’s Day with him.

“I can’t wait to hopefully go out for lunch with him, he’s stepped up to the plate and is such a great Dad to many people.”

Sophia Holland nominated husband Liam ahead of his first Father’s Day, saying he was an incredibly proud dad to their 11-week-old daughter, Flicka.

“He loves to spend time with our daughter and always makes her smile and giggle,” she said.

“He is loving being a dad and he’s always taking Flicka to see our animals on our property. He’s incredibly helpful and loving.

Mrs Holland said it had been a long road for the couple to finally become parents and she was grateful to share it with such a wonderful dad.

“I’m so proud of the journey he’s had to become a father, he’s so supportive and in love with our little girl,” he said.

“On Father’s Day we’re going to watch some movies with my parents as well, so it will be a double Father’s Day for my husband and dad.”

Sophia also nominated her own dad Wayne, saying he was extremely supportive and always a phone call away.

“My favourite memory of him is going on camping adventures and getting to go out on the boat,” she said.

“We’re all going to be together this Father’s Day, so we don’t have to worry about who to spend time with.”

Toni Edge nominated her dad John, saying he’s always been the most amazing dad and has worked hard to support her, her two sisters and her mum.

John has retired to care for three of them.

“My favourite memory is from when I was little, I’d hear him stirring his cup of tea around 4am and I would jump out of bed and we would have a cup of tea and a Vegemite sandwich together before he left for work,” Ms Edge says.

“Unfortunately I won’t be doing much for Father’s Day as my mum and dad are sick at the moment, but will be visiting him soon and having cake and he will have a couple of well-deserved drinks.”

Jim Symon was nominated by his daughter Diane for having incredible amounts of love, work ethic and being an outstanding inspiration to his children and grandchildren.

“I nominated Dad because he’s always been there for all his kids, he’s always got time for them and willing to help out,” Diane Krause said.

Diane visited Jim on Friday for Father’s Day, and two of her sisters will visit him on the day.

Ella Duffy submitted partner Josh Grant in this year’s list as he is an exceptional father and has endless love.

Ms Duffy nominated her partner because he’s a selfless father and loves all the couple’s children as his own.

“My favourite memory with him is when we do a lot of family holidays and take the dogs and kids to the beach and have a great time,” Ms Duffy said.

“And the birth of our daughter Gracie was amazing and something I’ll hold close to my heart forever.

“He was by my side every day and wanted to be with the daughter 24/7. He’s an extremely dedicated father,” she said.
