DEVASTATED: Tom Potts robbed of his prized possession

HEARTACHE as thieves steal a mountain bike an Endeavour Foundation employee worked and saved furiously to buy.

ONE of Warwick's favourite characters has been robbed of his prized possession and source of independence, when a brazen thief pinched Tom Potts's mountain bike.

The bike, which often has the distinct "Potts Heavy Haulage” trailer on the back as it travels around Warwick, was stolen as Mr Potts attended an appointment at the Condamine Medical Centre yesterday afternoon.

The heartbroken bike owner did not mince words about those responsible.

"There are some real mongrels out there, and I just want my bike back,” he said.

"I'm very angry and I'm very upset.”

Mr Potts's mum Meg Calvert said the theft was a cruel blow to her son, who worked hard and saved furiously to get the bike.

"He was so distraught,” she said.

"Tom worked really hard at Endeavour for a long time to earn the money to buy the bike all by himself.

"He's not a big earner so it took time to save and he loved that bike.”

The matter was reported to police and CCTV footage is being checked for information.

"Hopefully someone comes forward, because it's hard for Tom to get around without that bike,” Mrs Calvert said.

Condamine Medical Centre receptionist Roz Thompson said she was outraged someone would take advantage of "the most beautiful-souled person”.

"Tom came back in and he was shaking,” she said.

"He was very upset the bike was gone, as well as his helmet and special water bottle.

"To see him like that was devastating.”

Mrs Thompson said staff circled the building in search of the bike, thinking it had just been hidden in a prank, not taken in a more sinister theft.

"Tom would never anticipate that someone would want to steal his bike,” she said.

So far Mrs Thompson has fielded three offers from people wanting to give Tom a bike.

"One fellow has one exactly the same as Tom's and want him to have it,” Mrs Thompson said.

"I was so surprised to wake up this morning and see my Facebook post about the theft had been had been shared 125 times.

"I'm so happy Warwick wants to see Tom get his bike back.”

The bike is similar to a 2010 Giant Rincon and has a custom made hitch on the back for Mr Potts's trailer.
