An unvaccinated Indigenous resident has tested positive for Covid in Warwick in the past 24 hours, putting the region on high alert.

The result was one of three new locally acquired cases confirmed by the State Government at a press conference in Cherbourg on Wednesday morning, with the others in the Gold Coast area.

Current information from Queensland Health indicates the Warwick case is linked to the outbreak in the New South Wales town of Moree.

Deputy chief health officer Doctor Lynne McKinlay said the person in Warwick was not vaccinated against Covid and identified as First Nations.

“They were infectious in the community for up to 10 days, and again we will be posting if there are any exposure sites you need to be concerned about,” she said.

“If you’ve been to those locations, please do and get tested.”

The Condamine Sports Club between 1pm and 2pm on November 2 and the Warwick RSL between 8.40pm and 9.10pm on November 3 have been listed as casual exposure sites.

Anyone who has been in these locations at the relevant times must immediately return to their home or accommodation and quarantine, then get a Covid test at their earliest opportunity.

Residents may exit quarantine once they receive a negative test result.

No other Warwick venues have been listed by Queensland Health at this stage.

Dr McKinlay indicated there may be an additional Covid testing site opened in Warwick from Wednesday, but there has been no confirmation of a location.

More than two-thirds of Southern Downs residents are fully vaccinated against Covid, with the current rate at 67.1 per cent.

Covid testing and fever clinics are currently open at Condamine Medical Centre, Sullivan Nicolaides Warwick, and Warwick Hospital.
