A workplace brawl between a tradie and a colleague has landed a Warwick man in hot water, with a magistrate warning him about controlling his anger.
Courtland Thomas William Turner faced Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to one count of common assault.
The court was told on July 18 this year Turner, a diesel mechanic, grabbed and struck a colleague at his workplace, which was all caught on CCTV.
The footage was said to have shown the 28-year-old grab the victim by the shirt before putting his arms around him and pushing him.
The colleague threw an oil filter at him, before Turner ran at the victim, grabbing him again and pushing him with force.
Two witnesses then restrained Turner following the brazen assault.
It was believed Turner and the colleague were having a heated conversation before the assault.
Defence lawyer Wesley Seewald said Turner apologised to the victim following the assault.
“An argument led to the assault, and his frustrations got the better of him,” Mr Seewald told the court.
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess slammed Turner for his lack of anger management, citing a man of his age should take responsibility for his anger.
“A man of your age with your prior offending is concerning,” Ms Sturgess told Turner.
Ms Sturgess noted Turner had several priors for similar offending, including an assault occasioning bodily harm charge from 2017, and another common assault charge from 2019.
“You were in a position of authority, and it was fortunate the incident was caught on CCTV, it’s well and truly time you take responsibility with your anger,” she said.
“Your issues will catch up with you if you don’t stay out of trouble.”
Turner was sentenced to four months imprisonment, wholly suspended for 12 months.
Turner was terminated from his position following the assault.
