Following the Southern Downs Regional Council media conference yesterday, additional community concerns about the state of Condamine River Rd and the works to its river crossings were put forward to council’s director of infrastructure Gary Murphy.
Mr Murphy confirmed council agrees that rectification works are required and further that a recent inspection was conducted on the state of the eastern end of Condamine River Rd and as a result of this inspection, works to repair parts of the road have been scheduled to begin the week of July 10.
These works are ahead of future scheduled plans to complete a major re-sheeting and formation of the road which are set to occur once the four priority bed level crossings have been completed.
Mr Murphy further stated that priority repairs are scheduled and based on their impact to public safety, volume of traffic, road class, location of damage, type of damage and its severity, with Condamine River Rd having particular complex issues with access and the impact of rainfall events.
As for the community’s allegations of a lack of communication and consultation from council on the planning of these works, Mr Murphy maintained that council was inclusive of the community during this period and will continue to engage with them on any future projects, with monthly progress updates are available via the SDRC website.
